AOTRM

Adherent of the Repeated Meme, that is. But first, a public service announcement:

This is just a reminder that I'm not writing in the Harry Potter universe any more. I haven't for some time. Like, years. I have no plans to write in that universe ever again. I'm not reading the fanfic. I didn't even buy HBP (though the notices have been good enough on it that I may eventually read the electronic copy I have - I'm thoroughly spoiled, by the way). And, in fact, I never finished OOTP. My interest has drifted to other things - primarily Batman Begins, New Who and Old Highlander, at the moment. If you've friended this journal to read Potterfic or recommendations for Potterfic, then feel free to defriend with no hard feelings of any kind, because you are certainly in the wrong place. However, if you friended me because of Potterfic but you're staying because you find my various weirdnesses entertaining (or for any other reason, of course), then by all means, welcome and help yourself to snacks.

I have a long list of links and recs piling up, but they're all at home, and I'm sneaking on stealthily (like a ninja! trained by Liam Neeson!) to do this from work. Hopefully I'll get around to that one of these days. In the mean time, this meme, though rather solipsistic, seems like it might be amusing. And believe me, at this job, I am desperate for amusement. Help prevent me from committing seppuku with the letter opener out of boredom, won't you? Gacked from [info]casirafics:

Casting Call

I think it's inevitable that as we read each other's journals we create mental pictures of each other. Post this on your own journal to find out who your friends see when they read about your life.

Two Rules:
1. The person must be in the movies or on TV (but doesn't have to be an actor/actress). The person can be specific to a role (e.g. Jennifer Elhe's Elizabeth Bennet) or just the person themself.
2. You have to post a link to a picture of said person in the comments.

These castings can be based on things in the person's personality or on physical traits you know they have.

I'd amend 1 to say that the person can be a public personality of any kind as long as you've got a picture, and add that you might also cast based on physical traits you imagine me having as well as ones that you know I have.

As an alternative answer I want to pose the question of why this meme seems to be going unanswered here and in most of the other journals I saw it posted on a survey of friendsfriends.

In my case, I've only seen it in two journals and I have met both people in RL, so I don't have any other mental images. But I suspect that if someone on my flist who I have not met were to post it, I still wouldn't reply, and so far I have two reasons: first, I don't actually do this -- match up known public faces with people (or characters in books) I know but haven't seen. Second, I'd be anxious about inadvertently insulting or hurting the person if they hated or otherwise took exception to my match. I suspect that impulse may be true for others, but hopefully not everyone is as conflict-adverse as I am.

I think it's largely because it's a labour-intensive meme for the respondent, or that some people just don't get visual pictures of others that way (I don't, for example). But I've seen others getting replies, and in fact I've got a reply down below. Joan Cusack! Which I think is great. I wish I were as cool as Joan Cusack.

HI! YOU'RE A NINJA! I OWE YOU AN EMAIL! I LOFF YOU!

OMG ELIOT IS EVIL! AND AN ARMCHAIR!

Eliot is neither evil nor an armchair. He is an architect, in fact. And a Mancunian. So you MUST LOVE HIM AND DESPAIR!

But I am SO a ninja! Except for the part where I can't jump because of my knees. I'm a horizontal ninja.

I'm cleaning tonight because my mother is coming tomorrow. You might notice a correlation between when I clean and when I have company. The last time I cleaned was when you came to visit and Jeff came home. I am a slovenly, slovenly creature. A slut in both senses of the word.

Do email me sometime because I would love to hear how things are going.

If I can ever get photoshopping again, you shall have a horizontal ninja icon, I so swear it.

Will email.

...damnit. I wrote you a long reply about why the Silververse universe rocks and how I still expect *canon* to somewhat go like Silververse just because it rocks so hard, and how my mental image of Draco is always somewhere between the Draco you gave us in the Silververse and the origami swan scene from the PoA film. But. Yeah. That was pretty much it, except it was originally longer.

And, that, you know, I like you for other things, too, so you're not getting rid of me THAT easy. =)

Awww. Thanks! I loved that thing with the swan. That was a very fanon Draco thing to do, I think.

I appreciate the kind words, and your Rose icon. ROSE! I'm resonating concrete!

This is close to how I see you:

::dies laughing:: I love her! Look nothing like her, but love her.

However, I can see why you'd think that I should sort of look like that based on my personality. I don't think I look much like my personality indicates that I should. Weirdly. Whatever that means, in fact. You know what I mean. I hope.

And see, that paragraph is a very Joan Cusack paragraph.

If only I really were that tall!

i have totally always thought that you are actually minnie driver, only... more petite. this minnie is you, to me!

[info]fearlessdiva

July 22 2005, 02:44:22 UTC 6 years ago

Actually, that's pretty damn close. I doubt I'm much more "petite" than Driver - she might be taller, but I've been as big as a size 16, though I'm now down to a size 8 and hopeful of getting down one more size to the size I was in college. Even when I was super skinny, though, I was pretty curvy.

Heh. Good show!

I was really hoping that more people left insulting or strange photos, but the Liam one was worth the clickity.

Hello!

I'd stumbled onto Tissue of Silver some months ago without knowing who had written it. Between today and yesterday, I discovered the silververse site, the rest of the silververse fiction and your livejournal, but woe! You've quit silververse! In fact, the fandom altogether!

Oh dear, that's very sad to know (why are all the authors of the really brilliant stories doing this?).

Anyhoo, I have three questions for you, if you don't mind..
1. I had a lot of thoughts regarding the entire silververse canon, some of which I have jotted down. Some are framed as compliments, some as comments and some as questions. Would you care to read the entire bolus? (I thought it best to ask since you are no longer in the fandom).
2. If it's not a personal question, may I know why you left the HP fandom, please (considering HBP's release has given a new filip to the Draco-Harry ship)?
3. Although I have no fandom in common with you, your non-rec posts are interesting, informative, and entertaining. So, may I friend you, please?

How did you stumble upon it without knowing who had written it? Is there a version floating around somewhere that doesn't have my name on it?

1. Feel free to ask your questions. I'm swamped with work-for-money at the moment, but I'll be happy to answer when I get a spare moment.

2. I "left" the fandom simply because my interest drifted away to other things. It wasn't a big dramatic thing. I never really considered myself "in" the fandom exactly. I didn't run any archives or anything. I was just writing some fic and reading some fic for a while, and I began to want to write and read other things.

3. Anyone and everyone is welcome to friend. Right now I'm extremely busy and not posting much, but I friend everyone who friends me.

Cheers and welcome!

Oh no, no, it was not floating about authorlessly. I'd requested someone to send me HD fic in doc format, and they'd done that but it hadn't contained any links or similar leads.

Thank you for the welcome :) you're very kind *friends*
